Event Overview
The Cambridge Half Marathon is scheduled for this Sunday, attracting approximately 15,000 runners to participate in the 13.1-mile (21.1 km) race. The event will start and finish on Victoria Avenue, adjacent to the event’s village located on Midsummer Common.
Participants are advised to arrive at least 45 minutes before the race begins to ensure a smooth experience. In preparation for the event, 36 roads in and around the city will be closed, starting from 4:00 AM, with the last road expected to reopen by 7:00 PM.
Personal Stories
Among the participants is Chloe Hodgkisson, who is running to raise funds for the Stroke Association charity. Chloe suffered a stroke in 2024, which required emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from her brain. Reflecting on her journey, she stated, “I just couldn’t believe it; I had to walk again.”
Chloe’s experience has been challenging, as she expressed, “For a long time, I felt helpless; I couldn’t be the mum I was before.” Her participation in the half marathon is part of her recovery and determination to overcome her struggles.
Additionally, she has completed 60 miles in a Run/Walk for Stroke challenge and plans to undertake a 50 km ultra challenge trek in June, showcasing her commitment to raising awareness and funds for stroke recovery.
The Cambridge Half Marathon is not just a race; it is a significant community event that brings together runners and supporters. The flat course is known for providing participants with a great chance of achieving personal best times, making it a popular choice among both seasoned and novice runners.
Rob Foreman, another participant, commented on the challenges of the race, saying, “This challenge is definitely going to be one of the hardest I’ve done physically, so it’s going to be a case of being mentally strong and resilient.” His sentiment reflects the spirit of determination shared by many participants.
