Chiltern Railways Faces Major Disruptions Due to Engineering Work
Chiltern Railways is set to suspend all services into and out of London Marylebone on March 14 and 15, 2026, due to essential engineering work on the Chiltern Main Line. This significant disruption comes in the wake of a recent tragic incident at Northolt Park station, where a person died on March 9, 2026.
The closures will impact thousands of passengers, as no trains will operate during this period. Rail replacement buses will be provided to facilitate travel between Bicester North and Bicester Village, as well as between Gerrards Cross and Hillingdon.
Following the fatal incident, all Chiltern Railways lines between London Marylebone and Princes Risborough were closed, leading to severe delays of up to 120 minutes across the line. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 AM, prompting immediate safety measures and investigations by the British Transport Police.
In response to the ongoing issues, engineering teams will undertake extensive work, including replacing old rail sleepers with new concrete ones, updating track and ballast, and performing maintenance on track switches and crossings approaching London Marylebone.
Michael Stewart, a representative from Chiltern Railways, acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the service suspension, stating, “I understand that no trains to or from London Marylebone for an entire weekend will significantly inconvenience our customers.”
Neil Gaskin, another official, emphasized the importance of these upgrades, noting, “These upgrades are vital to ensuring trains run reliably and on time.” The engineering work is designed to improve reliability and provide smoother services for years to come.
As the situation develops, further updates regarding the impact of the engineering work and any additional service changes are expected. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the disruptions and the timeline for the completion of the engineering work.
