M6 Traffic Update
“We would encourage motorists to find alternative travel routes if they can do so,” stated a police spokesperson regarding the ongoing disruptions on the M6 motorway.
As of March 7, 2026, the M6 is closed northbound between junction 28 (Charnock Richard) and junction 30 (Bamber Bridge) due to a police incident. Additionally, another closure is in effect northbound between junction 21 and 21a, close to Warrington, also prompted by police activity.
In a separate incident, traffic has been held following a crash on the M6 southbound between junction 12 for Gailey and junction 13 for Stafford South. This collision was reported at 6:35am, contributing to the overall traffic chaos.
Authorities expect the northbound incident to clear by approximately 11am, while the situation on the southbound side is being managed with traffic temporarily held due to the accident.
Despite the disruptions, traffic is reportedly coping well on the southbound route, indicating that some motorists are managing to navigate around the issues.
The police spokesperson emphasized, “This closure will cause some disruption but it is absolutely necessary, and we are working as quickly as we can to get the carriageway fully re-open.”
These incidents on the M6 are part of a troubling trend, as the motorway has experienced multiple closures due to police incidents on the same day.
Motorists are advised to stay updated on traffic conditions and consider alternative routes to avoid delays.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the specific nature of the police incidents that led to these closures.
