What does the future hold for women’s boxing in the UK? The answer is promising, with Sky Sports set to broadcast Most Valuable Promotions’ new women’s boxing platform, MVPW, starting April 5, 2026.
This initiative includes two all-female UK fight nights each year, showcasing top talent in the sport. The inaugural event will take place at London’s Olympia, featuring a highly anticipated lightweight world title unification fight between Caroline Dubois and Terri Harper.
In addition to the main event, Ellie Scotney will face Mayelli Flores, a bout that could potentially make Scotney the UK’s youngest undisputed champion. This event marks a significant step forward for women’s boxing, reflecting a growing recognition of female athletes in the sport.
On the same day, heavyweight boxing also made headlines as Deontay Wilder defeated Derek Chisora in a closely contested match. The judges scored the fight 115-111, 115-113, and 115-112 in favor of Wilder, improving his record to 45 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw, while Chisora’s record fell to 36 wins and 14 losses.
Wilder expressed his concern for Chisora post-fight, stating, “Tonight, I looked out for him. I want him to live for his kids.” Chisora, reflecting on the match, said, “I’m going to go home with the boss lady and see.” This highlights the camaraderie and respect often found in the boxing community.
Looking ahead, the boxing calendar remains busy. Hamzah Sheeraz is scheduled to fight Alem Begic for the WBO super-middleweight title on May 23, 2026, in Egypt. This event will also feature Mizuki Hiruta defending her WBO super-flyweight belt against Mai Soliman, alongside Jack Catterall facing Shakhram Giyasov for the WBA ‘regular’ welterweight title.
The partnership between Sky Sports and MVPW signifies a major milestone for women’s boxing globally, as noted by Nakisa Bidarian, who emphasized the importance of this collaboration. Jonathan Licht from Sky Sports echoed this sentiment, stating, “This agreement with MVP underlines Sky Sports’ ambition to showcase the very best in women’s boxing to sports fans and new audiences.”
As the boxing landscape evolves, fans can look forward to more exciting matchups and events that highlight the talent and competitiveness of both women’s and men’s boxing.
