Central line delays across London
The Central line is experiencing severe delays across its entire route due to a signal failure at Bethnal Green. Passengers are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys as multiple Tube lines are affected.
In addition to the Central line, the Bakerloo line is facing minor delays due to train cancellations, while the Northern line is also running with minor delays following an earlier signal failure at Kennington. The Piccadilly line is heavily disrupted, particularly between Acton Town and Heathrow Airport, after engineering work ran late.
As a response to the ongoing delays, tickets are being accepted on London Buses and the Elizabeth line, providing alternative travel options for affected passengers.
The situation has been exacerbated by an impending strike by Tube drivers, scheduled for March 24, 26, April 21, 23, and May 19, 21, over a dispute regarding working hours. The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) has around 1,800 members involved in this dispute, which centers on a rejected proposal for a compressed four-day working week.
RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey stated, “London Underground is trying to force through major changes to working patterns that have already been rejected by our members.” This ongoing dispute raises concerns about potential further disruptions to the already strained transport system.
A spokesperson for Transport for London commented, “These threatened strikes are completely unnecessary and will have a serious impact on London’s businesses and commuters and we urge them to call off this action.”
Passengers are being urged to check before they travel, as the combination of signal failures and the potential for strikes could lead to further complications in their journeys.
