Colin Kazim-Richards has officially been appointed as the new head coach of Crawley Town, stepping into the role following the dismissal of Scott Lindsey. Lindsey was let go after a challenging period that saw the team go 10 games without a win, leaving Crawley Town positioned at 21st in League Two.
The announcement comes shortly after Kazim-Richards’s retirement from professional playing in 2023. At 39 years old, he brings a wealth of experience to the managerial position, having played for 18 different clubs throughout his career, including notable teams such as Arsenal, Celtic, and Fenerbahce.
During his playing career, Kazim-Richards made 37 international appearances for Turkey, scoring twice. His time at Celtic in 2016 was particularly memorable, as he contributed to the team by scoring two goals in 13 appearances and earned a Scottish Premiership winner’s medal.
Prior to his appointment at Crawley Town, Kazim-Richards worked as an attacking coach at Arsenal’s academy, where he coached youth sides. This role provided him with valuable experience that he will now apply in his first senior management position.
Raphael Khalili, a representative from Crawley Town, stated, “Following a thorough and highly competitive recruitment process, Colin distinguished himself as an outstanding candidate.” This endorsement highlights the confidence the club has in Kazim-Richards’s abilities to lead the team.
As he begins his tenure, Kazim-Richards faces the challenge of revitalizing a struggling team and steering them away from the relegation zone. His extensive background in football, both as a player and a coach, will be crucial as he works to implement his vision for the club.
Currently, the atmosphere at Crawley Town is one of cautious optimism as fans and players alike look forward to the changes Kazim-Richards will bring. His appointment is significant not only for the club but also for Kazim-Richards, who is eager to make his mark in management.
As the new head coach, Kazim-Richards will aim to leverage his experience and knowledge of the game to inspire his players and improve the team’s performance in the league.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding his immediate plans for the squad, but expectations are high as he embarks on this new chapter in his career.
