Before the recent Mayor’s Charity Gala, expectations were high for a successful event that would bring the community together to support local charities. The gala, hosted by Mayor of Enfield Margaret Greer, aimed to celebrate the work of three notable organizations: the Enfield Black Heritage Hub, Royal Free Charity, and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The decisive moment came when the gala successfully raised significant funds, which will directly support the missions of these charities to improve lives and strengthen the community. The event featured a silent auction, further enhancing the fundraising efforts.
In contrast to previous years, where fundraising events faced challenges in engaging the community, this year’s gala saw a remarkable turnout. Cllr Greer remarked, “The Mayor’s Charity Gala was a wonderful celebration of the generosity, compassion and community spirit that defines Enfield.” This sentiment was echoed by Dionne John, who stated, “The funds raised through the Mayor’s Charity Gala will make a real difference to our work in Enfield.”
Local charity representatives, including Hayes Rees, expressed their gratitude, with Rees noting, “It’s a great honour to be one of the mayor’s charities.” Frances Bentley also shared her enthusiasm, stating, “It was great to be part of the team involved in the mayor’s gala and to connect with the wonderful people in the room.”
Looking ahead, the Nungate Gala is scheduled for August 8, with two fundraisers planned on March 21. These include a table-top sale at the Nungate Community Hall from 9.30am to 12.30pm, and an afternoon tea event at 1pm, with tickets priced at £7.50 or two for £10.
Overall, the Mayor’s Charity Gala not only raised funds but also fostered a sense of community and collaboration among local organizations and residents. The success of this event sets a positive precedent for future fundraising efforts in Enfield.
