On March 17, 2026, St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated with enthusiasm across various locations in the United States, including New York and Washington DC. The Princess of Wales has extended her wishes for a happy St. Patrick’s Day to the Irish Guards, highlighting the significance of this cultural celebration.
Irish communities around the globe will partake in festivities, marking the day with parades, music, and traditional Irish dance. The celebrations are expected to attract thousands, continuing a long-standing tradition of honoring Irish heritage.
Among the highlights of this year’s celebrations is the announcement that Michael Flatley’s iconic show, Lord of the Dance, will return to the UK for its 30th Anniversary Tour. This event is anticipated to draw in over 60 million fans who have enjoyed the performance since its debut in 1996.
Flatley expressed his excitement, stating, “The magic of Lord of the Dance lives on in the hearts of our audience, and I am thrilled to bring this iconic show back to the UK in 2026.” This return is seen as a significant moment for both the performers and the fans of Irish dance.
In addition to the cultural performances, the Shamrock car, introduced in 1959 as the first indigenous Irish car, will also be a point of interest. Designed by Alvin ‘Spike’ Rhiando, only nine or ten of these unique vehicles were produced, making them a rare piece of automotive history.
The Shamrock featured an Austin B-series 1489cc engine, producing between 52 and 53 horsepower, and had a wheelbase of 98 inches. Originally sold for $2,495, this price would be equivalent to approximately $27,000 today, reflecting its value as a collector’s item.
As the day approaches, various events and parades are being organized, with participants eagerly preparing to showcase their Irish pride. Lance Sergeant Mills, who led the drums and pipes for the Irish Guards, shared, “I led the drums and pipes on today, so that was a big moment for me in my career.”
Jessica Mills, another participant, noted, “[Kate’s] just so easy to talk to, and really down to earth, I wasn’t actually expecting that,” reflecting the approachable nature of the royal family during such celebrations.
As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, the excitement builds within the community, and the spirit of the occasion is felt far and wide, with many looking forward to the festivities that honor Irish culture and heritage.
