Bolton Wanderers marked their return to the Championship with a 2-1 victory over Preston North End at the Toughsheet Community Stadium. Goals from Sam Dalby and Thierry Gale in the first half secured the win for Bolton, their first in the second tier since March 2019.

First-Half Dominance for Bolton
Bolton took the lead after 15 minutes when Sam Dalby scored from a rebound. The opportunity arose after Preston goalkeeper Daniel Iversen made a weak save from John McAtee’s left-footed shot, pushing the ball directly to Dalby, who then side-footed it home from 18 yards.

The visitors had a golden opportunity to snatch a point in the dying moments of injury time. Liam Lindsay missed a last-gasp equaliser, heading over from close range in the fourth of four minutes of added time. This miss secured Bolton’s victory, which would have been a harsh outcome for the home side given their overall performance.
Preston had made several changes just after the hour mark, with manager Paul Heckingbottom introducing recent signings Leo Leroy, Odel Offiah, and Erabi for Pol Valentin, Jordan Thompson, and Callum Lang.
