The new head coach has already made some notable decisions regarding the squad. Goalkeeper Nick Pope, 34, who was a key figure under the previous manager, was left out of the squad entirely for the friendly. Jaissle confirmed he had spoken with Pope about the situation, appreciating his career achievements while also addressing the current circumstances.
Newcastle is reportedly looking to add more experienced players, particularly in midfield, with veterans Dan Burn and Fabian Schar expected to maintain important roles. Lewis Hall was not risked due to a knock, while Fabian Schär and Alex Murphy were ruled out. Tino Livramento underwent minor surgery earlier in the summer, and Dan Burn is expected to return next week after helping England reach the World Cup semi-finals.
Jaissle is scheduled to visit St James’ Park for the first time as head coach next week before his formal unveiling.
The team has had a demanding week of training in La Manga, and the manager granted the players two days off before they resume preparations for the upcoming Premier League season.
