“Caring for our customers and ensuring their safety is our priority,” stated a spokesperson from Hays Travel, reflecting the heightened concerns surrounding travel to certain regions. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has recently advised against all but essential travel to the United Arab Emirates due to ongoing geopolitical tensions.

Travelers are specifically urged to avoid areas near security or military facilities in the UAE, as the situation remains fluid amid the ongoing US-Israeli conflict involving Iran. This advisory aims to ensure the safety of British nationals in a region marked by instability.

In contrast, the FCDO has also updated its travel advice for British travelers planning to visit Portugal. British passport holders can enter Portugal without a visa for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day timeframe. However, those intending to stay longer must apply for an extension under exceptional circumstances.

“If you’re visiting Portugal and need to extend your visa-free stay for exceptional reasons, such as a medical emergency, you must apply to AIMA using their contact form,” the FCDO noted. This highlights the importance of being aware of visa regulations while traveling.

Starting from April 10, 2026, the EU’s new Entry/Exit System will be operational, requiring biometric information upon entry to the Schengen zone. This change is significant for travelers, as overstaying the 90-day visa-free limit could result in a ban from entering Schengen countries for up to three years.

“If your holiday is not affected by this advice, normal booking terms and conditions apply,” the Hays Travel spokesperson added, reassuring travelers that standard procedures remain in place for unaffected trips.

Travelers are also reminded to ensure that their entire visit to Schengen countries remains within the 90-day visa-free limit to avoid complications. The FCDO continuously refreshes its travel guidance to keep British nationals informed of alerts and entry requirements, emphasizing the importance of staying updated.

As the situation evolves, British travelers are encouraged to monitor the FCDO’s updates closely to ensure their safety and compliance with travel regulations. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further changes to travel advisories in the near future.
