When I was offered the chance to re-imagine Monarch of the Glen, I leapt at it,” said Jeremy Brock, the series creator. The beloved Scottish comedy-drama is set to return with a new lead character and storyline. The reboot will air on Channel 5.

The new series will consist of six parts. It features Isla Campbell, a high-flying London lawyer who returns to her family’s Highland estate for her estranged father’s funeral. Upon her arrival, she discovers that she has inherited a million-pound debt and a brother who refuses to let go of their ancestral home.

Key facts about the reboot:

The original Monarch of the Glen aired from 2000 to 2005 on BBC One for 64 episodes across seven series.

The new series is produced by Ecosse Films, the original producers of Monarch of the Glen.

Filming will take place in Scotland and Northern Ireland later this year.

The series is described as a fresh reimagining of the iconic show.

Casting details for the new series have not yet been revealed.

Hope and joy are a currency in short supply right now,” Brock added. He believes that the Scottish Highlands are an ideal setting for this family saga. Robert Bernstein expressed excitement about bringing this beloved show to a new generation: “Monarch of the Glen holds a very special place in our hearts.”

I know the warmth, humor and romance in this new version is just what our American audience looks for in a Masterpiece series,” said Susanne Simpson from Masterpiece PBS. The reboot promises to introduce viewers to a rich ensemble of new characters.
