Trey Hendrickson Signs with Ravens
Trey Hendrickson has agreed to a four-year, $112 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens, marking a significant move for the team as they look to strengthen their defensive lineup.
The contract includes $60 million fully guaranteed and a $20 million signing bonus, with additional incentives allowing Hendrickson to earn up to $500,000 per season based on sack thresholds. This agreement comes after the Ravens backed out of a trade for Maxx Crosby due to a failed physical, leaving them in need of a strong pass rusher.
Hendrickson, a four-time Pro Bowler, led the NFL with 17.5 sacks in the 2024 season. However, he faced challenges last year, playing only seven games due to injuries and recording four sacks. Over his nine-season career with New Orleans and Cincinnati, he has accumulated a total of 81 sacks and reached double-digit sacks four times.
The Ravens’ pass rush was notably underwhelming last season, producing just 30 sacks, which tied for the second fewest in franchise history. The team’s need for improvement in this area was a driving factor behind their aggressive pursuit of Hendrickson.
Prior to this contract, Hendrickson had requested a trade from Cincinnati last March and missed organized team activities and a mandatory mini camp, which raised concerns about his commitment. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact nature of the failed physical for Crosby, but it has left the Ravens with a gap to fill in their defensive strategy.
In addition to Hendrickson’s signing, the Ravens had initially agreed to send two first-round draft picks to the Raiders for Crosby, indicating their desire to enhance their defensive front. Following the failed trade, the Ravens lost several players to free agency, further emphasizing the urgency to secure a top-tier pass rusher.
