Victor Wanyama has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34. The Kenyan midfielder made this announcement on April 3, 2026, marking the end of a distinguished career that included stints at several clubs across different countries.
Wanyama is well-known for his time at Tottenham Hotspur, where he made 97 appearances and scored seven goals. His partnership with Mousa Dembele was instrumental in helping Tottenham achieve their best-ever finish of second in the Premier League during the 2016/17 season.
Before joining Tottenham, Wanyama had a successful spell at Celtic, where he won two Premiership titles and the Scottish Cup. He was also the first Kenyan to play in the English Premier League, paving the way for future generations of footballers from his country.
His last professional game was with Dunfermline Athletic against Greenock Morton, concluding a career that saw him play for six different clubs in four different countries. In total, Wanyama made 140 appearances for CF Montreal before becoming a free agent.
