Makhachev’s Record-Breaking Victory
Islam Makhachev successfully defended his UFC welterweight title against Ian Machado Garry on Saturday, securing a significant win at UFC 330. The victory marked his 17th consecutive win within the promotion, surpassing the previous record held by Anderson Silva. Despite moments where the outcome appeared uncertain, Makhachev ultimately prevailed in the main event.
As the pound-for-pound number one fighter in the UFC, Makhachev largely managed to avoid prolonged striking exchanges with Machado Garry during the initial two rounds. He instead utilised his wrestling skills to maintain control over his challenger. A notable moment occurred in the second round when Makhachev unexpectedly dropped Machado Garry with a head kick as they disengaged from wrestling against the fence.
Machado Garry, who is 28, recovered effectively and prevented a takedown attempt from Makhachev, 34, in the third round. He appeared to claim that round with a variety of strikes late in the frame. The subsequent round proved crucial, with Makhachev seemingly winning it by securing another takedown of Machado Garry, despite appearing fatigued.
UFC 330 Main Card Highlights
The UFC 330 event, held at the Xfinity Mobile Arena, featured a full card of bouts. In the co-main event, Mackenzie Dern successfully retained her women’s strawweight title by outpointing Gillian Robertson. The main card also included several other matchups, contributing to a full night of mixed martial arts action.

Event Access and Streaming Details
The entire UFC 330 event was broadcast live on Paramount+. The main card was scheduled for Saturday, August 15. The prelims started at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET.
