Adrian Lewis, a two-time PDC World Darts Champion, has made headlines with his impressive weight loss of over 20 kilograms (approximately 3.5 stone) in just 14 months. This transformation comes as he stepped away from competitive darts in 2023, marking a significant shift in his career.
Lewis’s decision to take a break from the sport was influenced by his extensive 20-year career at the top of darts. He expressed, “I think I needed a break. After 20 years, I definitely needed it. Now I feel refreshed, and I just want to go back and enjoy it.” His commitment to a healthier lifestyle includes regular walking and avoiding alcohol, which has contributed to his weight loss.
In 2025, Lewis lost his PDC Tour card due to inactivity, but he is determined to make a comeback. He aims to return to the PDC Tour through Q School in 2027, signaling his intent to reestablish himself in the competitive darts scene.
Lewis’s journey back to competitive play began with his participation in the MODUS Super Series in August last year, where he showcased his skills after a hiatus. His past accolades include not only two PDC World Championships but also victories in the UK Open and European Championship, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in darts.
As he prepares for his return, Lewis remains focused on his health and performance. He stated, “Over the last 14 months, I’ve lost about three and a half stone (22.2kg).” His dedication to fitness and well-being reflects a broader trend among athletes prioritizing health alongside their competitive ambitions.
In the darts community, reactions to Lewis’s transformation have been positive, with fellow players acknowledging the impact of a strong walk-on song, as noted by Glen Durrant, who mentioned, “I think a walk-on song can give you 1%. We’ve seen some powerful walk-ons.” This highlights the psychological aspects of performance in sports.
As Lewis looks ahead to 2027, the darts world watches closely, eager to see if he can reclaim his former glory and inspire others with his journey of resilience and transformation.
