A large-scale police operation involving 500 officers has led to multiple arrests at the headquarters of the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light in Crewe, amid serious allegations of sexual offences and modern slavery. The operation took place on April 29, 2026, following reports that implicated members of the group in various crimes.
Cheshire Police executed the raid after receiving information about serious allegations involving forced marriage and modern slavery. The alleged offences reportedly occurred in 2023, involving one victim who is a woman and a member of the group. During the operation, approximately 150 individuals were present at the group’s communal setting.
The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light moved its headquarters to the UK from Sweden in 2021. Since then, it has been based out of a former orphanage known as Webb House. Currently, around 56 children are living at this location and are being home-schooled.
The police investigation is focused on individual suspects rather than the group as a whole. The suspects include men and women from various nationalities, including American, Mexican, British, German, and Spanish. Authorities have not disclosed specific details regarding the suspects or their charges.
Key facts:
- The group has had contact with an estimated 7,000 people since establishing its UK headquarters.
- There are about 150 people living in the group’s communal setting.
- 56 children are understood to be living at the group’s headquarters.
Chief Superintendent Gareth Wrigley stated, “This is not an investigation into the religion; this is an investigation into the serious allegations which have been reported to us.” He emphasized that Cheshire Police treats all reports of sexual assault seriously. Following the arrests, police are working closely with local partners to ensure appropriate safeguarding measures for other members of the group.
The group blends tenets of Islam with conspiracy theories about the Illuminati and aliens. This unique combination has drawn interest from various individuals worldwide. However, details regarding how these beliefs may relate to the current allegations remain unclear.
AROPL’s lawyers have stated that their client denies any wrongdoing. The investigation continues as authorities seek to address these serious allegations effectively.
