Due to upcoming bank holidays, many benefit payments will be issued earlier than usual to ensure claimants have access to funds. Payments due on Monday, May 4 will be issued on Friday, May 1. Additionally, payments scheduled for Monday, May 25 will arrive on Friday, May 22.
Payments affected include:
- State Pension
- Universal Credit
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Child Benefits
- Adult Disability Payment (ADP)
- Attendance Allowance
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) announced these changes to accommodate the Early May Bank Holiday and the Spring Bank Holiday. DWP offices and phone lines will be closed over these holidays. Payments typically cannot be processed on bank holidays because both banks and DWP offices are shut.
The Early May Bank Holiday falls on Monday, May 4, 2026, while the Spring Bank Holiday is on Monday, May 25, 2026. The full state pension increased to £241.30 a week from April 6, 2026. This adjustment aims to provide timely financial support for recipients.
DWP officials emphasized that all services—including online chat and Jobcentre Plus offices—must be operational for standard payment processing. Therefore, early disbursement ensures that claimants receive their benefits without delay.
This change reflects ongoing efforts by the DWP to streamline processes around public holidays. As future bank holidays approach, similar adjustments may continue to occur.
