Arne Slot has addressed reports concerning his decision not to take on the role of head coach for the Netherlands national team. The former manager had been in discussions regarding the position after leaving his post in the summer.

Slot explained, “That speculation is incorrect. We simply never reached that stage of the talks.” He emphasised that discussions did not progress to the point of negotiating a contract’s specifics.
His primary reason for not pursuing the national team role stems from his preference for daily involvement on the training pitch with players. Slot noted that this level of engagement is not typically possible with a national team in the same way it is with a club.
“At this stage of my career, I prefer to see myself on the training pitch with my players every day. Something that is simply not possible in the same way with a national team,” Slot elaborated.
This preference led him to choose not to continue the discussions or to begin negotiations regarding the form a possible contract might take.
Future Aspirations and Respect for KNVB
Slot expressed significant respect for the national team and the KNVB, the Dutch football association. He described the talks that took place as professional.
He indicated that he still feels club football has much to offer him at this point in his career. While acknowledging that it would be a great honour to represent his country as national coach one day, he concluded that the timing was not right for him.
“For now, I believe that club football still has a lot to offer me,” Slot affirmed. He added that while it would be an honour to manage his country, it was not the right moment.
