Jarlath Burns, president of the GAA, expressed his organisation’s confidence in hosting such events. He stated that the GAA would receive a substantial fee for the match, contributing to its coaching and games budget, which typically amounts to between €13 million and €14 million annually. Burns also mentioned that the FAI would receive a portion of the proceeds due to its role in co-hosting the game through Uefa.
Former players were also involved in pre-match activities. Denis Irwin, who played for both Manchester United and Leeds United, Wes Brown, a former Manchester United player, and Michael Bridges, formerly of Leeds United, coached local schoolchildren. Irwin, who earned 56 caps for Ireland, reflected on the changing landscape of the Premier League, noting the increased global representation of players compared to his playing days in the 1980s.

Leeds United enters the friendly in strong form from their summer preparations. The team recently secured a victory against RB Leipzig at Elland Road, with goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha in a match played over two 60-minute halves.
