Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have mutually agreed to leave WWE. This move is part of a larger effort by the company to cut payroll expenses. Both wrestlers were significant figures in the organization, particularly as members of The New Day.
Kofi Kingston signed with WWE in 2006. He became a prominent star, famously winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35 in April 2019. He is also a four-time Intercontinental Champion, a 14-time Tag Team Champion, and a three-time United States Champion.
Xavier Woods joined WWE in 2010. He has accumulated 10 Tag Team Championship reigns and one NXT Tag Team Championship. Both wrestlers have been moved to the alumni section of WWE’s website following their departures.
Their exits are part of a broader trend, with 23 Superstars released by WWE in one night. Kofi Kingston’s release was described as mutual, with both parties agreeing to part ways.
WWE’s decision comes as Kingston and Woods both made well into the seven figures annually. They are expected to be in high demand outside of WWE, with potential opportunities in rival promotions like All Elite Wrestling.
Kofi Kingston’s last televised match occurred on April 17, 2026. He will still be able to wrestle under his real name but cannot use “Kingston” due to trademark restrictions. Xavier Woods will need to adopt a different ring name because “Xavier Woods” is owned by WWE.
There is a standard 90-day wait period on the releases before they can sign with another promotion. Observers note that these departures mark the end of an era for two performers whose partnership along with Big E made The New Day one of the most enduring acts in modern WWE.
The wrestling landscape may shift significantly with their moves, as both wrestlers bring substantial fan followings and experience.
