Lewis Hamilton’s dissatisfaction with his qualifying position highlights ongoing struggles with Ferrari’s simulator and car setup ahead of a potentially rainy race at the Miami Grand Prix on May 3, 2026.
Hamilton qualified sixth after improvements from previous sessions. This position is a step up from his earlier qualifying performance, where he placed seventh. However, he expressed discomfort with P6, stating, “I don’t feel comfortable in P6; it is not where I want to be, so naturally, I am not happy.”
He criticized Ferrari’s simulator for leading him in the wrong direction regarding car setup. Hamilton indicated that he might cut out simulator running due to its negative impact on his performance.
Ferrari introduced eleven upgrades for the Miami Grand Prix weekend. Despite these changes, Hamilton still felt uncertain about the car’s setup. He noted that he reduced his qualifying deficit to pole position to five tenths of a second compared to earlier sessions.
Hamilton remained hopeful for better performance during the race but ultimately felt dissatisfied with his qualifying result. He stated, “It was an improvement, and we made lots of changes to the car; we didn’t have software issues, so I think we progressed.”
Looking ahead, Hamilton is expecting rain during the race. He believes wet conditions could provide an opportunity for improved performance. “I’m confident with the balance that I have today in wet; hopefully, we should be in a good place,” he said.
