Mel Schilling, a prominent relationship expert on Married at First Sight Australia and UK, has been a familiar face on the show since 2016. Recently, she revealed a significant health challenge: a diagnosis of colon cancer in December 2023.
During a medical scan, doctors discovered a tumor the size of a lemon. Following this, Mel underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy over two years. Unfortunately, the cancer progressed, spreading to her lungs and later to the left side of her brain.
In a recent statement, Mel shared the devastating news that doctors have informed her that no further medical options remain. “I honestly don’t know how long I have left,” she expressed, highlighting the gravity of her situation.
As a result of her health concerns, Mel announced her decision to step back from the Australian version of Married at First Sight to focus on her recovery. Her replacement on MAFS UK will be John Aiken, who has stepped in with her blessing.
Despite her illness, Mel has continued to film segments for Married at First Sight while undergoing treatment. She has also shared her experience to encourage others to prioritize their health. “If something doesn’t feel right, please get it checked out. It might just save your life,” she advised.
Mel’s clinical trial is scheduled to begin in March 2026, offering a glimmer of hope amid her challenging journey. She has expressed gratitude for the support she has received during her illness, stating, “Hearing those words changes everything.”
