A bomb hoax led to the evacuation of a Peter Kay show in Birmingham on Saturday night. The incident occurred about 45 minutes into the performance at the Utilita Arena.
Audience members reported confusion as they were asked to leave without being informed of the situation. The evacuation was triggered by a report of a suspicious bag left in the venue.
West Midlands Police responded promptly to the scene. They conducted thorough searches of the area but found nothing suspicious. A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with the bomb hoax.
The evacuation took place on the advice of police and was described as a precautionary measure. The safety and security of customers and colleagues is the highest priority for the venue.
Many audience members expressed shock and concern during the evacuation. Steve Aspinall said, “To be honest, I thought it was part of the show at first.” Another attendee, Miranda Richardson, noted how quickly the situation escalated: “It was very swift. One minute [Kay’s] on stage and then two of the event team walked on stage straight to him, quick word and he’s ushered off.”
Ticket holders will be contacted regarding this incident as officials continue their investigation.
