Prince William and Kate Middleton introduced their new puppy Otto on his first birthday, which also marked their 15th wedding anniversary. Otto is a brown Cocker Spaniel born to the family’s other Cocker Spaniel, Orla.
Otto was born in May 2025 and celebrated his first birthday on May 1, 2026. The royal family shared a photo of Otto on social media with the caption, “Welcome to the family, Otto! 1 today.” This announcement came shortly after Kate mentioned the puppy in February when he was eight months old.
The couple previously had a Cocker Spaniel named Lupo, who died unexpectedly in 2020. Prince William noted that Orla is actually Lupo’s niece. He expressed sadness over Lupo’s passing during a public event, stating, “It was very sad.” Now, Otto joins the family alongside Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Otto is one of four puppies from Orla’s latest litter. His fur is described as a lovely chocolate color that highlights his ears. At just one year old, he is expected to increase the family’s activity levels as they enjoy walks in the Windsor gardens.
As a member of the royal family, Otto’s presence adds to the tradition of celebrity pets within British royalty. The couple’s commitment to dog adoption reflects their values towards family pets.
With Prince George at 12 years old, Princess Charlotte at 10, and Prince Louis at 8, Otto will likely become an integral part of their daily lives as they celebrate both his milestones and those of their children.
