raf — GB news

RAF personnel participated in Anzac Day ceremonies in Harrogate, England, honoring military sacrifices. The event recognized 97 Royal Australian Air Force and 23 Royal New Zealand Air Force servicemen.

An F-15E Strike Eagle at RAF Lakenheath was painted to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Operation El Dorado Canyon. This operation was a military response to the bombing of the La Belle discotheque in West Berlin.

Meanwhile, RAF troops intercepted more than 100 Iranian drones and missiles at a Middle East base during ongoing conflicts. The coalition base faced daily attacks, with 28 drones and missiles linked to Iran targeting it.

The Ministry of Defence is discussing expanding the UK’s counter-drone capability. This comes as RAF forces shot down over 100 drones during six weeks of conflict in the region.

Wing Commander David Buckingham expressed pride in representing RAF Leeming at the Anzac Day ceremony. He stated, “It was an honour to represent Royal Air Force Leeming at the Anzac Day Ceremony.” Al Carns acknowledged the critical role of RAF personnel in protecting the base, saying, “The base would probably be a smouldering wreck if it wasn’t for you guys.”

Air Chief Marshal Harv Smyth confirmed discussions are underway regarding counter-drone capabilities. He mentioned, “Yes, that’s definitely a discussion that we’re having.” The ongoing recognition of military sacrifices intertwines with current operational demands on RAF personnel.
