Davey Todd, a nine-time North West 200 winner, has been ruled out of this year’s race due to injuries from a crash at the Daytona 200. Despite his intensive recovery efforts, he was deemed unfit to compete.

Todd suffered multiple injuries in the crash. He broke his femur, tibia, foot, and nose after being thrown from his Triumph motorcycle and hitting a wall. He underwent surgery in the USA following the incident.

After surgery, Todd completed an intensive six-week recovery program at the Formula Medicine clinic in Italy. He returned to riding for the first time since the accident at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia. However, despite feeling strong and healthy during tests, he was assessed by the Chief Medical Officer and found unfit for racing.

Key facts about Todd’s condition:

  • Todd is currently 30 years old.
  • He has won the North West 200 nine times.
  • His injuries resulted from a mechanical failure during the Daytona 200.

Todd expressed disappointment about missing the race. “I’m gutted, I’m confused. I worked so hard over the last weeks to get fit and to come back and race in front of the fans here at the North West,” he said. Mervyn Whyte also shared his disappointment: “We are very disappointed that Davey will not be on the grid this year.”

Peter Hickman, Todd’s teammate, had previously indicated optimism about his recovery. Yet, with this latest assessment, it is clear that Todd will miss one of his favorite events.
