Microsoft’s Outlook and Hotmail services faced a significant outage, impacting hundreds of users in both the UK and US. Over 800 users in the UK reported issues accessing Outlook services, while around 400 users in the US experienced similar problems. Most of these issues—64 percent—related to email login problems.
The outage began just before 10 a.m. on April 27, 2026. Users not only struggled to log in but also faced difficulties receiving messages. Microsoft acknowledged the disruption on its Service Health page.
The company is investigating the root cause of the server failures affecting Outlook. Microsoft stated that local fixes are unlikely to be effective until server-side issues are resolved. “Our investigation indicates client sign-in scenarios may be contributing to the reported behaviour,” a Microsoft spokesperson said.
Users have expressed frustration over their inability to access essential email services during this outage. The impact is significant for both personal and business communications.
Microsoft continues to monitor the situation closely. The company has not disclosed a timeline for resolution or specific details about the server failures. Further updates are expected as investigations proceed.
