Nigel Farage is setting his sights on a first-place finish for Reform UK in the upcoming May Senedd elections in Wales, with projections indicating the party could secure 30 seats. This ambition comes as Reform UK is currently neck and neck with Plaid Cymru in the polls.
According to a recent YouGov poll, Reform UK has a national voting intention of 24%, placing it ahead of the Labour Party, which stands at 17%. Farage expressed confidence in his party’s position, stating, “Coming first in Wales is the ambition,” and added, “We’re neck and neck right now, literally neck and neck with Plaid.”
Historically, Labour has maintained control of the Welsh chamber since its establishment in 1999, making the upcoming elections particularly significant for both Reform UK and the Labour Party. Observers expect Labour to lose several seats in the May 7 elections, which could reshape the political landscape in Wales.
In addition to the Senedd elections, there are approximately 5,000 council seats up for grabs across England, further intensifying the electoral competition. Farage’s party had two members in the last Senedd, both of whom were defectors from the Conservative Party.
