Uk national threat level

uk national threat level — GB news

The UK National Threat Level has been raised to ‘SEVERE’ following a stabbing incident in Golders Green, North London, that targeted the Jewish community. The Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) made the announcement on April 30, 2026.

Shabana Mahmood, a government official, stated, “Today, the national threat level has increased to ‘severe,’ which means a terrorist attack is considered highly likely.” She acknowledged the fears within the Jewish community, saying, “I know this will be a source of concern to many, particularly amongst our Jewish community, who have suffered so much.”

The increase in the threat level follows a violent incident where two Jewish men were seriously injured. One victim was 34 years old and the other was 76. A 45-year-old man was arrested in connection with this attack.

The threat level had not been at SEVERE since the aftermath of significant incidents in 2021, including the Liverpool Women’s Hospital bombing and the killing of MP David Amess. Authorities have noted that recent months have seen an increase in threats from both Islamist and Extreme Right Wing terrorism.

The UK government responded to these rising threats by pledging £25 million for enhanced police patrols and security measures specifically for Jewish communities across the country. Keir Starmer emphasized that his government would do everything possible to combat hatred and violence.

The UK National Threat Level is determined by JTAC based on intelligence assessments of various threats. The current situation underscores heightened vigilance against potential attacks amid growing antisemitism.
