Juha Miettinen died after a multi-car collision during the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers on April 18, 2026. He was 66 years old. The incident involved seven drivers and resulted in significant injuries.
Emergency services responded quickly. However, they were unable to save Miettinen after he was extracted from his vehicle. He died at the medical centre despite attempts at resuscitation.
Six other drivers involved in the crash were taken to the Medical Centre and nearby hospitals for precautionary examinations. Fortunately, none of the injured drivers are in a life-threatening condition.
The race was set to feature four-time Formula One champion Max Verstappen. Verstappen expressed his shock over the incident. “Shocked by what’s happened today. Motorsport is something we all love, but in times like this it is a reminder of how dangerous it can be,” he stated.
A minute’s silence will be held in Miettinen’s honour during the grid formation for the next race. This gesture underscores the impact of his loss on the motorsport community.
