Cumberland Council is currently exploring Active Travel improvements for The Crescent and Warwick Road in Carlisle. This initiative is part of the council’s broader ambition to enhance travel schemes across the area, aiming to create more accessible and people-friendly streets.
The council is in the process of conducting initial assessments and preparing preliminary design concepts for the project. The goal is to support healthier lifestyles and ensure better access to key destinations within the city.
A public drop-in session is scheduled for April 15, 2026, from 3 PM to 6 PM, where residents and businesses will have the opportunity to provide their insights on the proposed improvements. Cumberland Councillor Denise Rollo emphasized the importance of community input, stating, “Exploring possible improvements on The Crescent and Warwick Road is about understanding what local people need from their city centre.”
For those unable to attend the public drop-in event, a survey will be made available to gather additional feedback. This approach aims to ensure that the voices of all stakeholders are considered in the planning process.
Councillor Rollo also noted that while the project is in its initial stages, “Nothing is in a construction timetable; this is simply the very first step.” This indicates that the timeline for any potential construction remains uncertain at this point.
