Major UK airlines have guaranteed no additional fuel costs for pre-booked and new holiday packages amid rising concerns over jet fuel shortages. Jet2, TUI, and easyJet all confirmed they will not impose fuel surcharges on their flights or holiday packages.
Jet2 has removed the surcharge provision across all flights and holidays. TUI has also assured customers that no fuel surcharges will be added to holiday prices. EasyJet echoed this commitment, stating it will not introduce surcharges on its flights or package holidays.
Neil Swanson, Managing Director at TUI UK&I, emphasized the importance of customer confidence. He stated, “We understand that customers want both confidence and clarity when booking a holiday.” This sentiment reflects a broader concern among travelers regarding potential flight cancellations linked to jet fuel shortages.
The UK government recently issued a statement addressing these shortages. Approximately 75% of Europe’s jet fuel supply comes from the Middle East, raising concerns about supply stability due to geopolitical tensions.
Garry Wilson, CEO of easyJet holidays, acknowledged traveler apprehensions. He noted, “We know that holidaymakers may have questions about what recent global events might mean for their travel plans this summer.”
Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2, reinforced the right of holidaymakers to book without fear of unexpected costs. He stated, “Holidaymakers should have every right to book their hard-earned break in the sun, without worrying about being hit with additional costs.” This assurance aims to alleviate traveler anxiety as the summer season approaches.
